Reading the feedback you guys give us in the gaming forums, it's been clear to us that the game was lacking in a tight infantry map with the PLA army involved. So we set out to create a map with that in mind and this is the result of that. That map, which we have called Operation Blue Pearl, will appear in the upcoming Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 and Battlefield 2142 Update 1.51.

Limitations
As some of you probably know, BF2 has been around for a while and many of the current players have rigs that can run the game at high settings. But to us, creating official content, we still have to keep the low specs of the game in mind designing a map.

That's where the "fog of war" comes in. When we make maps here at DICE we are constantly using programs that check draw-calls on our maps so that, wherever you position yourself on the map, the draw-calls never exceed the maximum limit. (A draw-call is when the game engine must call a texture image into the graphic card's memory for it to be rendered on screen. The more draw-calls the game must make, the more it impacts computer performance so limiting these is one of the cornerstones of game production.)"

The Battlefield Podcast will reach its 100th episode this Saturday, June 28th, 2008. To celebrate this event, the show will be streamed online at www.tuxmedia.tv/live beginning at 2pm PST and lasting for several hours.

The afternoon and evening will be spent "shooting the breeze" with fans of the Battlefield Podcast as well as guest from the Battlefield community. The mics and webcams will be open for most of the duration of the live show, allowing visitors to chat with the Battlefield Podcast hosts and have their audio/video be streamed live online. The best live moments will be saved and edited into the 100th episode. To contact the live show, add the Skype username "tuxmedialive" or the Stickam username "bfpodcast". Throughout the event we are expecting several prominent guests from the Battlefield community, such as the hosts of the Inside Battlefield Show from NetGameRadio.com, and more. The Battlefield Portal states: "After a successful open beta phase of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50 and tweaks and updates being made based on feedback on the forums we have released the final version of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50. Servers are being updated and the client files are now available for you to update and get into the new content.

As we mentioned with the Beta release we have added a number of new features and added new content to Update 1.50

- Added community maps, Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle
- Added the ability to use widescreen resolutions.
- Added No Vehicles mode.
- Added Conquest Assault mode.
- Changed the volume control for the Commander Voice Over on request of the esports community.
- Changes made to pod steering mechanism to improve control while limiting pod surfing.

- Fixed the loading issue caused by corrupt Radial.cdb file
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.

The BF Portal states: "Starting today you can be part of the Beta phase of Battlefield 2142 Update 1.50. Update 1.50 is a big step for Battlefield as it is the first time we have included community created maps and included them into an update. Wake Island makes a come back thanks to The Sir. Community and appears alongside a brand new map new to Battlefield created by Jason Brice, Operation Shingle. Also, for those who prefer to fight on foot, we have added a No Vehicle option to a number of maps to allow you to fight without worrying if you'll come face to face with a Battle Walker. Also, as requested by match broadcasting groups we have separated the Commanders voice volume from the Sound Effects so you can keep the explosions and gun fire without the Commander interrupting the broadcast.

Novint to License Games From EA to Boost Support For Its Falcon 3-D Touch Controller (News)

Last week, Novint and Electronic Arts exclusively revealed to Newsweek's Level Up their agreement by which Novint will license several EA games, which Novint will then patch to support its Falcon peripheral. The titles which are being modified include Madden NFL 08, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, Need For Speed ProStreet, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. Each of this titles has been previously released, but Novint CEO Tom Anderson hinted that the company might support EA's as-yet unannounced Need For Speed title for 2008.

What surprised Newsweek somewhat is that Novint will charge players who already own these games $9.99 for a patch (Anderson's own words) in order to make the games Falcon-compatible.

So when new users register our game it is registered under there e-mail address and not under their EA Account. The patch includes a beta of the map Tampa Highway as well as other fixes such as:

- Fixed an exploit that would allow commanders to call Orbital and EMP strikes before it had fully recharged.
- The Clark RDX Shotgun can now detonate other nearby explosives.
- EU Assault Rifle recoil and deviation have been slightly reduced.
- Bianchi and Shuko LMGs recoil reduced.
- Clark Shotgun rate of fire increased.
- Added an autosave to kit customisations. After you customise a kit and spawn in with that kit, the customisation will be automatically saved until you change it and spawn in again. Note that you must spawn in with a particular kit for it to be saved.

EA to blacklist users of leaked Northern Strike files (News)

For those of you who haven't heard, several days ago EA confirmed a leak in which client files for the upcoming booster pack, Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike, were found circulating on the internet. Now EA is attempting to stop the leak by blacklisting server IP's which have been found to be using the leaked Northern Strike map. The news came from our server partner, Branzone, who urged customers to remove any Northern Strike maps from their server to avoid problems.
