Think Aliens meets Starship Troopers, and you’ll have a good idea of the feeling Alien Shooter: Vengeance is going for. You know, the feeling of holding back relentless swarms of bug-like critters as your ammo dwindles.

The game puts you in the shoes of an elite mercenary, hired to put a lid on an army of aliens that have overrun an abandoned research facility. Mixing in some RPG elements with the alien blasting action, you’ll earn cash and experience points as you increase your kill count and complete missions for the marines stranded in the facility. More cash allows you to arm yourself with everything from flamethrowers to trusty shotguns and stat-boosting cybernetic implants. More experience means more points to spend on raising stats that increase your character’s attributes, providing more health or increasing movement speed.

While Alien Shooter won’t stress your system with any eye-popping graphics, the early preview build of the game we saw still impressed us with its attention to the gory details. Each kill is followed by flying limbs and a satisfying crunching sound, leaving a small stain of spattered blood on the floor. But after mowing down hundreds of these frenzied monsters, these small stains eventually accumulated into a massive mess of blood, guts and unidentifiable body parts.
