360 Review
360 - Dark Sector - Dark Sector Dark Sector has so many similarities to Resident Evil 4 that it could be seen as an expansion pack for Capcom’s classic. Firstly, the plot - it focuses around a city infected by a disease. The infection, like RE4’s Las Plagas, turns regular folk into murderous zombies. There’s a shadowy figure attempting to create an army with these creatures. Then there’s the female double agent - she’s like Ada Wong, minus the ...

Boxes are scattered around the apartment, evidence that your girlfriend Jenny has only just started moving in. She's surprised you with a birthday cake and - even though you've tried to warn her that you kill people for a living and your former boss is out for your blood - she shrugs it off as a bad joke. Motioning you over to the couch, she kisses you, leans her head on your shoulder and gradually falls asleep as the two of you watch TV. It's not what you'd expect from a hyperviolent shooter, ...

Dec 14, 2007 Apparently inspired by the work of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, Darkness Within only manages to retain traits from the legendary Cthulhu, in that to even lay sight upon it will lead to insanity. A world of nausea and terror awaits, full of terrible writing that will lead you to flay yourself and weep for your lost money. The game's controls seem to have been designed by a drunken Myst fanatic - you walk around stilted 3D environs clicking your mouse in the eager hope that you ...

What is it with space pirates? They don't fly the Jolly Roger, they don't wear flowing garments and they don't abuse the word "arrrr". These guys aren't pirates; they're just losers. So there really isn't any moral dilemma when you blow them out of the sky in DarkStar One, a game that tries too hard to be a cinematic drama when it should just concentrate on what it does well: blowin' stuff up. You play Kayron Jarvis, novice fighter pilot, on a mission to find the assassin who killed his ...

We all make mistakes while trying to make our way through this crazy world of ours. So we can empathize with Darkwatch hero, Jericho Cross when his well-intentioned train robbery goes awry and gets him bitten by a Vampire Lord, turning him into a blood-thirsty creature of the night. It could happen to any of ...

PC Review
Darwinia sounds like the sort of game that ought to involve tweaking squirmy single-celled organisms all the way up to pensive, brooding bipeds. In fact, Introversion's quirky Darwinia has nothing to do with its "Charlie Darwin" namesake. Instead, it "evolves" (if thats the word) a few coin-op principles into a psychedelic real-time strategy romp with rudimentary arcade tendencies. If retro-funky were real estate, Darwinia would own it coast to coast. This is gaming at its weirdest, where ...

Wii Review
Oct 5, 2007 Having starred in some fairly reasonable Tony Hawk-style games and sensibly extricated himself from the risible BMX XXX a few years ago, Dave Mirra seemed to drop off the gaming radar. But while we'd sort of forgotten he was still around, it seems he never actually went away. Late last year he popped up on PSP, to very poor reviews, and now the same game has been converted to Wii. BMX Challenge is pretty much identical to the Sony portable version. Instead of the free-roaming ...

PSP Review
This is a dull BMX game, ruined by a fiddly control system and bad collision detection. Its got tricks, races and large, free-roaming environments, but its just so flaky. Its a shame, as the presentation is decent enough, with some nice looking menus, and there arent exactly loads of BMX games out there. But with Tony Hawk already doing a decent job on PSP, why would anyone go for this more awkward two-wheeled ...
