Xbox Preview | Without Warning
Without Warning is deceptive. By 'borrowing' ideas from TV drama phenomenon 24, this special-ops anti-terror game refuses to sit comfortably on the special-ops anti-terror shelf. However, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it sounds like action-shooter genero-crap from the storyline. A ruthless terrorist group has seized a chemical plant close to the centre of a city. They've taken hostages, set up perimeters, and are now patrolling areas smoking dodgy foreign fags and scowling. They reckon ...

DS Preview | The World Ends With You
DS - The World Ends With You - The World Ends With You - hands-on It’s not every day Square Enix produces a game that doesn’t end with “Fantasy” or “Hearts,” but channels the better parts of both series to create a game so bizarre, yet immensely playable. We expected as much, considering Tetsuya Nomura (the head brain behind the Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy Versus XIII) directed and designed all the hipster characters for The World Ends With You - the latest ...

DS Preview | The World Ends With You
Jan 14, 2008 We love it when this happens: its so refreshing when Square Enix move away from their usual money-spinners and finally decide to tackle a fresh, new idea. The World Ends With You is just that. Set in Shibuya, Tokyo - the hip and trendy fashion capital of Japans youth culture - this game is a 2D RPG that shirks all the usual fantasy RPG ...

PC Preview | World in Conflict
World in Conflict is an RTS set in a Cold War scenario where the Berlin Wall never fell. That means we get loads of cool '80s and '90s tech to play with - and fully destructible environments to let loose in. The first thing you'll notice when you get into a game is that it's big without being too sprawling. The camera swoops in from what looks like a mile above the conflict zone, down through fluffy clouds and into the action. The graphics did cut up a bit during our playtest, although ...

PC Preview | World in Conflict
Sonic booms break the stillness, followed by the screeching sound of fighter jet engines. A closer boom rattles the shelves and a descending high-pitched tone indicates an incoming missile. Wondering whats going on, you stumble outside before gasping in shock. Parachutes fill the air and in the distance, Russian tanks rumble over countryside. An explosion hits a nearby house - one things for sure - the Cold War hasnt ended; its only just begun. Thats the setting for World in Conflict and its a ...

PC Preview | World in Conflict
Fixed camera angles looking down on masses of units will go the way of the dinosaur if lead designer, Magnus Jansén has his way. "We want the world to wake up and realize that this is the way to play RTS games." says Jansén, when asked about World in Conflict's unique camera control system. Mousing to the sides of the screen will rotate the camera angle and you can zoom back and forth with the WASD keys, much like a first-person shooter. A Supreme Commander-esque mega map which ...

PC Preview | World in Conflict
Its been a while since we brought you a first look at Massive Entertainments World in Conflict. Their first game since Ground Control II, World in Conflict is set in the Cold War 80s. The Soviets, instead of going Perestroika, have invaded Europe and the US, leading to a three-fronted war where everyones got nukes. And everyone loves nukes. We were told how the game was set to combine real-time strategy with the basic setup of a Counter-Strike match - starting players off in one corner of a ...

PC Preview | World in Conflict
Some months back, we ran a preview of World in Conflict, noting that it looked like an interesting take on the real time strategy genre. Having gotten our hands on it last week, albeit somewhat briefly, we can say that our initial impressions were indeed correct: it's interesting. Actually, the one thing about WiC that really made an impression can be summed up in one word - "nukular." Just to fill you in, multiplayer WiC is played much like an RTS version of Counter-Strike, in that players ...
