Microsoft rep Chris Satchell told an audience of bloggers that the company will place less focus on making original Xbox games backwards compatible with Xbox 360 as 2007 progresses. Back in February Sony said it would drop a chip from the manufacturing process of PS3 that meant the machine wouldn't be 100 percent backwards compatible with PS2 games. Instead it would have limited functionality that would be enhanced via firmware updates. Sony's Phil Harrison told European gamers at the start of ...

This week's KOXM podcast from our in-house friends at Official Xbox Magazine was expected to be a biggie, what with the release of Gears of War this week and all, but they surprised even us. First they've got an interview with Gears designer/fashionista CliffyB, who modestly declares that Gears "is a milestone for entertainment." Then he gets kinda dirty, talking about hand jobs and stuff. It's fun. Then Microsoft Game Studios head guy Shane Kim and Xbox Live marketing guru Aaron Greenberg ...

Tuesday 13 June 2006 Microsoft stopped production of the original Xbox as early as last July, according to the author of The Xbox 360 Uncloaked, Dean Takahasi. We sat down with Dean to chat about his new book, which uncovers Microsoft's long road to releasing Xbox 360, and he told us that Xbox production "ended in July last year. Cheap games just got cheaper. Microsoft announced today that 16 games within the budget-priced Platinum Hits collection have now been elevated to "Best Of Platinum Hits" status, dropping their prices accordingly from $19.99 to just $9.99. The new pricing kicks in this month. Some of the games have already been forgotten - you'll be hard pressed to find many Xbox owners still playing the party-game launch title Fuzion Frenzy, for instance. But we can't argue with the super-low pricing of titles ...

In an announcement today, publisher Eidos has revealed plans to release a special edition of Tomb Raider later this year to celebrate Lara's 10th birthday - or rather, a special edition of one Tomb Raider or another. Exactly which of Lara's escapades will be getting the special edition treatment hasn't been explained; could Eidos be remaking the original Tomb Raider? Tomb Raider Legend is due for launch in a few months, making it unlikely that this special edition is a full, newly developed ...

You've got to love her. We're not sure if it's her endearingly girly (and slightly lame)  attempt at smashing the Xbox with a golf club or the out-of-breath comment that she 'hasn't damaged it as much as I'd hoped'. ...
