BeefJack writes: "Valkyria Chronicles II, is coming to the PSP in the winter of 2010 and the story will take place two years after the conclusion of the original game on the PS3. A group of young Gallian Military Academy cadets find themselves plunged into a bitter civil war when the newly formed Gallian Revolutionary Army stages a coup. Players will experience stories of friendship, love and growing pains during a time of war and revolution."
Aaron Webber, Assistant Community Manager, Sega of America writes on the Playstation Blog:
Sega has said that the follow-up to the awesome Valkyria Chronicles will land on PSP next summer. To be honest, we thought and hoped it would be a lot sooner than that.
I predicted Square Enix picked up Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One back in June when I caught a trademark. Now, about five months later, we have an official confirmation that Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume is coming and a teaser site to poke at. But, there isn't anything to see aside from the March 17, 2009 release date for North America.
Siliconera: "Remember when we discovered Square Enix trademarked Covenant of the Plume? They just used it. The official soundtrack for Valkyrie Profile DS goes on sale on November 11 and the cover art says Valkyrie Profile - Covenant of the Plume - official soundtrack in plain English. Oh, but in the Japanese text says Valkyrie Profile: Togo wo Seoumono Original Soundtrack or, as translated by Tri-Ace, Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One Original Soundtrack. This is unusual since Square Enix keeps the name for the official soundtracks simple. "Insert game title here" original soundtrack simple. This soundtrack CD doesn't have the Japanese subtitle anywhere on it."
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth was released across Europe and other PAL territories today for the PSP. The sequel, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, should be released sometime this summer.
The original PlayStation Valkyrie Profile is a hardcore RPG fan's dream. It's rare, expensive (on eBay), extremely deep, and the story strays quite far from tired RPG archetypes. Square Enix and original developer Tri-Ace just can't wait for Sony to set up their PS1 game download service for PSP, so they went ahead and remade the classic as a full fledged PSP title, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. This will give gamers plenty of time to experience the original story before the prequel, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, hits the U.S. in September.
