Quake Zero has been billed as a free, browser-based game of Quake 3 Arena supported by advertising revenue, but those of you worried that it'll be written in Java or something can rest easy - id's Steve Nix tells Eurogamer it just uses the browser to get going.
During today's Quake Con keynote the id folks announced that they have a team of developers working on a little pet project called Quake Zero.
Last time we saw Quantum Theory was at E3 2009, and the game was so early as to not even be playable. Now with this gothic 3rd person shooter at about the 50% point in development, Tecmo allowed us to go hands on before granting us an interview with Director Makoto Shibata. The playthrough helped us come up with a number of questions about the game, as did you readers. Here are the answers, as translated by Localization Producer Peter Garza:
Shak @ PS3Center.net writes:
Ever since Quantum was first announced, there have been the inevitable comparisons with Gears of War. Many even believed that the game was purely being made to try and draw the Gears of War market towards the PlayStation 3.
Gaming Union writes "During E3 2009, Tecmo gave their opinion on the current state of play with regards to the current generation hardware. They are currently developing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Quantum exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and surely there has to be a reason for this."
SCRAWL: "Tecmo's bringing a brand new IP to the PlayStation 3 titled Quantum Theory. At first glance, it might remind you of Gears of War, but judging by the game's environments and story, the game is one in its own. Tecmo has released thirty brand new screenshots of the game in light of E3 for our viewing pleasure."
PushSquare: "Tecmo's stomping action Playstation 3 exclusive - Quantum Theory - will not make it to Japanese stores until 2010, making a localized Western version not look likely until late next year; or even 2011."
Quantum Theory is drawing glances for all the right reasons. Despite being the first shooter ever crafted by the veteran developer Tecmo, the game features some stunning graphics and an interesting new take on the rapidly tiring Gears of War-style cover system. Of course, being a PS3 exclusive also has some play in this as well. But it wasn't always slated as so.
