In the months leading up to the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008, sources told IGN that a Wii remake of Kid Icarus was underway and destined to be unveiled at the event. Unfortunately, a day prior to the show, IGN learned that said project would not be on display after all. In a listing on e3.net, it's mentioned that Kid Icarus for the Nintendo Wii will make an appearence during E3 in a couple of weeks time.
Joystiq writes:'When fans debate which of their plentiful wells Nintendo will be returning to for their next big title, Kid Icarus is always a popular suspicion. Now, IGN's Matt Casamassina has basically confirmed that it's on the way to Wii. On episode 7 of the IGN Nintendo Voice Chat podcast Casamassina says, "Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud." '
Joystiq via IGN writes: "Pit's feature role in Super Smash Bros. Brawl could be a precursor to the Kid Icarus franchise's triumphant resurrection, or at least IGN seems to think so. On their latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Matt Casamassina and the gang discuss Reggie's recent comments about a holiday blockbuster to be announced at E3, and speculate that it could be the new Kid Icarus that they "know" is in the works.
Kombo Reports: "Kombo has learned from a credible source that said Wii game is in fact a new installment in Nintendo's cherished Kid Icarus franchise. According to sources, Factor 5's Kid Icarus title is being developed ground-up for Wii. It will not use one of the developer's previous GameCube graphics engines."
In an interview with GameInformer at the E3 Media & Business Summit last week, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto was pressed on the possibility of classic franchises like Earthbound / Mother and Kid Icarus being reinvented for Wii.
You hear that? That's the sound of Wii owners rejoicing. Nintendo has done all of us a huge solid, by putting together an extremely solid lineup for today's Virtual Console update.
