Tuesday 8 August 2006 Square Enix, the developer behind Final Fantasy and a host of other successful RPGs, has decided to start work on its own games machine. It seems Square has been liaising with Japanese coin-op giant Taito to produce some sort of games related hardware. If that sounds vague, that's because Squre Enix president Yoichi Wada doesn't seem too clear on what the product will be either. "In our talks with Taito [which was acquired by Square Enix in September], ideas for an actual ...

Master Chief brings a wicked Ryu Obviously, we're kidding - he probably couldn't work the joystick through that armor. However, we can point you toward the next best thing. Our man inside tells us that a huge chunk of the Halo 3 dev team just registered to participate in the world finals of the EVO2006 gaming tournament, taking place in Las Vegas this August 18-20. We're guessing they're most interested in Dead or Alive 4 than Street Fighter, but there are six different ass-kicking simulators ...

Wanna be a Hobbit? Remember Lord of the Rings Online? Given that there are now more MMOs than there are Korean citizens, we'd forgive you for forgetting, but never fear - it's still on the way. If you want to apply, head to the official website and let them know. Be warned of two things: You're going to need a beefy PC to run the ...

Our sister site Next Generation has compiled a list of the top 100 games of the 21st century. The list focuses on sales - which may mean that your favorite games aren't anywhere near the top. However, when it comes to voting with dollars, this is how it all breaks down. For example, the number 100 game on the list is Ninja Gaiden, which many will agree is one of the best games on the Xbox system, and our beloved Psychonauts probably isn't even in the top 200 - that means it's hardly fair ...

Friday 14 July 2006 Both Sony and Electronic Arts passed on the opportunity to turn Brit horror flick 28 Days Later into a game, according to the film's producer Andrew Macdonald. Macdonald was speaking at the Develop Conference in Brighton this week about the crossover between games and films when he revealed there was little interest in the 28 Days Later licence. Many independent developers were tempted by the idea but would need funding to produce it. 28 Days Later was directed by Danny ...

Friday 16 June 2006 GAME, the UK's biggest specialist games retailer, is set to abandon its '10 day no quibble' returns policy, according to industry magazine MCV. GAME's '10 Day Returns' policy currently allows gamers to return a purchased game within that time for a full refund, even if the game packaging has been opened. It really was too good to be true - many a forum-going UK gamer has admitted to using it as a glorified rental service over the past few years. Which would explain why ...

The annual Game Critics Award winners have finally been released, much to the elation and delight of the winners and the certain soul-crushing dismay of those who didn't quite take home the trophy. We would mention how surprised we are that Excite Truck managed to pull in best racing game honors or that Wii Sports has trumped publisher Electronic Arts' sports dynasties Madden and NCAA Football, as well as the NBA 2K series from 2K Sports - but given that Wii managed to pull in best of show, it ...
