Friday 1 September 2006 The developer of cult hit Psychonauts has been busily working on another slice of weirdness for a while now, but it's recently been confirmed that FEAR publisher Vivendi has snapped up the currently secretive title. We can also expect as-yet-unrevealed Vivendi games from the hack-and-slash RPG outfit behind Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath, and from Chronicles of Riddick creator Starbreeze - perhaps continuing Riddick's far more interesting run on ...

Nintendo wins at Japan We all know the DS is kicking ass. It has excellent games that unite everyone from oldsters to little kids, and the DS Lite is the sexiest portable system around (sorry, PSP. Maybe the new PSP - see below - will reclaim the crown.) But this past week, in Japan, Nintendo has hit another milestone: every single one of the top 10 selling games across all platforms is for the Nintendo DS. From Final Fantasy III on down, including a Brain Age sequel, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and ...

Remakes you won't be playing Gotta love blogs. Yes, they bring us cool news really damn fast. On the other hand, they're even less reliable than IGN. Today, Wii Fanboy posted a cropped scan of a Chinese magazine with Resident Evil for Wii on its on its cover - or so it claims. The artwork, however, is taken from the Resident Evil remake for the GameCube. Let's stop and think about this for approximately 30 seconds. Let's begin with the source. Is Game Next - a Chinese mag we've never heard of ...

Red Steel stays offline Word out of Nintendo of Europe's site - via an interview with Ubisoft's Stephanie Langlois, which you can't read, since you're not a European, have not purchased a European Nintendo game and thus have not obtained the code you need to do so - is that Red Steel won't have online play... at least, not at launch. Nintendo's online service Connect 24, which pushes new features to Wii games while you sleep (if it works, anyway) could change that... but who knows? Best to ...

Bull in sheep's clothing Rockstar's upcoming "thug in a snooty school" simulation Bully has found itself the latest target of self-righteous parents' groups and opportunistic politicians determined to blame videogames for all the world's evils. Apparently, pretend swirlies and dodgeball are now as bad for our youth as virtual murder and muggings. So imagine the mess we're going to have to clean up when the game's oppressors' heads explode after seeing our new screens and the latest trailer - ...

Wii three Wii news, big and small: our British sister site has three interesting reports up. The first concerns 128 Marios, a game Nintendo mentioned (and even showed a demo of) that was originally in the works for the GameCube. Yeah, we weren't exactly expecting it to come out, at this point. But it turns out that 128 Marios, did, in fact, provide the underpinnings for Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii. You can check the UK story to find out more, but be careful - it says that Galaxy is ...

Buy three According to industry site GamesIndustry.biz, Electronic Arts believes that Nintendo will release the Wii for $170 - much cheaper than the $250 price bandied around by internet pundits. Executive VP and COO of EA's worldwide studios, David Gardner says, "I've heard in Japan that the price is about $170, but I don't know if the price has been set in Europe yet." That's pretty unbelievably cheap - it's only $40 more than a DS Lite, little more than half the price of a crappy hard-drive ...

Got a few copper for a special lady? There are lots of guys playing World of Warcraft. Lots of lonely guys. That's what we imagine is the thought process behind whoever created Whores of Warcraft - and posted up a picture of two feisty cosplayers along with a "Coming Soon" message. We're not too impressed by the name, though - we prefer World of Whorecraft. Wouldn't you just know that it's already taken, too? Rather than sexy imagery, it just barfs up a generic text-only page, with categories ...

Scared yet? Today, two totally different bits of news about horror-FPS F.E.A.R. hit our inbox. It's not too hard to decide which is more interesting: it depends entirely on which platform you game on. For PC gamers, the multiplayer F.E.A.R. Combat pack adds - free of charge - scads of new content to the game: 10 modes, 22 maps, 12 weapons... it's pretty nuts. But if you're gunning for a PlayStation 3, it turns out the game will release on (or near) the system's launch date of November 17. So ...

2011: A Place Odyssey Why, oh why aren't we industry analysts instead of underpaid website editors? According to our companion site NextGen, the brilliant minds over at Boston's gifted think tank Yankee Group have predicted that the PlayStation 3 will hoist the victory flag in this generation's console war, edging the Xbox 360 and soundly trouncing third-place Wii - by 2011. Granted, the prediction itself isn't even a little brilliant - it reads suspiciously like exactly what happened this ...
