360 - Forza Motorsport 2 - Summer launch for Forza 2 in the UK

Xbox 360 racer Forza Motorsport 2 is roaring off the UK start grid this summer, Microsoft has informed CVG this morning.

They queried the publisher on a release date for these shores after getting confirmation that the game will be out in North America in May. Microsoft told CVG that currently summer is the only date it has.

The latest Turn 10 update has revealed that the Forza 2 development team has managed to achieve a 60 frames per second frame rate in the latest build of the game.

The achievement is the result of hours of code tuning that started soon after X06. Che Chou, Forza community manager, said:

As a result of a Herculean team effort, this past week, Turn 10's systems architect Chris Tector checked into the latest build some magic code that now renders the game at 60 frames-per-second with most of the post-processing special effects and car HUD turned on. Because Forza 2 is pushing so many polygons and next-gen effects, the team has had a heck of a time pushing the engine to run the game at a locked, butter-smooth, 60 fps.

The SPEED cable TV network has announced that it will broadcast Forza Motorsport Showdown, a four episode live action series in February 2007 that is loosely based on Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 racing sim game Forza Motorsport 2. Here is a snip:

Each episode follows a diverse group of racers through a rigorous roster of competitive motor sports disciplines ¿ drifting, road racing, autocross and drag racing ¿ in a $100,000 winner-take-all format. Forza Motorsport Showdown, inspired by the realism of the on-line, multi-player vehicle customization and tuning features within the game, puts contestants to the ultimate test of high-performance driving and mechanical skills.

Forza Motorsport 2, Microsoft's realism-heavy racing game sequel for Xbox 360, will not be released this holiday as planned. The launch date has now been pushed back into 2007 and Forza 2 is "far from finished," according to a forum post by Che Chou, community manager for the game.
