PC Feature | Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
Oct 18, 2007 There's a glut of fantasy-based MMOs out there, and more are on the way. But for every announcement we receive about a new MMO, it seems that there's another for one that's been delayed, gone free-to-play, or even cancelled. Are these signs of an imminent MMO bubble burst akin to the death of the dot com boom? Is there really room for so many new - and similar - titles for a genre that's known for sucking you in with its never ending content and making bank on monthly fees and ...

PC Feature | Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
Prior to its release, there was some talk about how Lord of the Rings Online might just be a World of Warcraft clone with better graphics. Even if it were a mediocre game, LOTRO would probably have achieved marginal success just for the fact that it featured Urukai orcs and the occasional Gandalf reference. But criticisms that LOTRO was just another “me too” MMO were soon silenced. In just a little over a month, the game has become quite a success, securing its place as the second ...

360 Feature | Lost Odyssey
360 - Lost Odyssey - Kick-ass powers that game characters forgot they had

Cutscene after cutscene, they exhibit planet-shaking combat abilities and a level of indestructibility which would make God himself jealous. But as soon as you pick up the controller? The Incredible Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner and all of those showboating tricks and superhuman powers disappear into the ether.

Just why do game characters save their best tricks until we've already done all the hard work for them? Here are the worst offenders. ...

360 Feature | Lost Odyssey
30 Nov, 2007 With the exception of The Elder Scrolls, Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon, it would be fair to say that the Xbox 360 is, at least for now, lacking in the hard-core RPG department. And with Final Fantasy set to hit the PS3 next year Microsoft needs to find a title that will entice RPG fans the world over. And they have. But not just one, in fact there are over 10 RPG's set to hit the 360 next year, and we're expecting more than a few of these to be life consuming epics. Over the ...

PC Feature | Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Console gamers spent most of their winter bundled up and armed to the teeth, raining heavy weapons down upon endless streams of giant bugs. Their home planet, an icy rock unfit for any living thing, made the perfect battleground both in the game and in reality - winter is the least-forgiving season for most of the country, after all. But now in bright, sunny June, the idea of traversing a snowy plain ravaged by a building-sized worm might actually come as a welcome reprieve from the sweltering ...

360 Feature | Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Level six breaks away from the traditional snow pirate enemy and introduces a new human adversary - the suited-up commando. These corporation-backed soldiers take a bit more oomph to down, but with smart weapon planning and, of course, our handy guide, this perpetually hazardous level should be no problem at all. The moment you round the first corner, the music will kick up and you're gonna have a flock of soldiers chasing you down. If you keep your distance though, you can probably off at ...

360 Feature | Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
This being the first level and all, everything's pretty straightforward. Look out for Akrid-generating hives, glowing areas on larger bugs and T-ENG towers that can be shot open for extra energy. There's a Vital Suit right away here, hop in, move ahead and right after the two frozen cars you'll see two energy drums. Behind them is the game's first letter token. Shoot it, get past the hives and use the VS to topple the larger Akrid. Head inside the parking garage for the first data post, ammo up ...
