But if an Omeganaut gets past round three, they must steel themselves for the singular gaming episode of their lives: playing Guitar Hero in front of 5,000 roaring PAX attendees just ahead of the Saturday night concert. Omeganauts like Greeley, Colorado native Will "Leeroy" Garroutte understood the pressure. Garroutte was 2005's Omegathon runner-up, and recalled standing in front of thousands of riotous gamers cheering his nervous performance playing Karaoke Revolution: "I was mentally prepared to have fun this year." True to his word, Will showed up in full rocker regalia, and wailed his way into the semifinal in front of the screaming throng with just three other ‘nauts.

One of those Omeganauts was David "Davertron" Davis from Essex Junction, Vermont. Davis said he was a PC-heavy gamer and admitted having to pick up Geometry Wars and Mario Kart DS from scratch in preparation for the event. Amazingly, Davis's practice paid off and he quietly followed Garroutte's Kart across the finish line in the Mario Kart DS semifinal for a place in the final Sunday showdown.
