Thor's going to be Janine in the Ghostbusters reboot

Director Paul Feig has taken to twitter to announce the latest tidbit of Ghostbusters casting news. Chris Hemsworth, last seen splashing around with his shirt off in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is hanging up the hammer to play the Ghostbusters’ receptionist in next year’s reboot.

Feig’s Tweet doesn’t expand on what his role may entail, but Deadline claims he’s actually playing a “male tech assistant.”

Dress it up however you like - but it sounds as if he’s playing the gender-swap version of the Janine Melnitz role so expertly played by Annie Potts in the first two movies. He’s set to join an all-female cast that includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, who will play the titular four.

Hemsworth is broadening his horizons of late by taking on more comedic roles. He’ll soon be seen in the Vacation reboot-sequel as the cocksure husband of Audrey Griswold - whose ahem, impressive, performance stole the biggest laugh in the trailer. Manning the desk at Ghostbusters HQ should find him chewing out enough snarky one-liners for a repeat performance next summer.

Production on Ghostbusters is gearing up for a summer shoot in New York. Ivan Reitman is producing and Feig is directing from a script he co-wrote with The Heat scribe Katie Dippold. The film opens July 22, 2016 in the U.S.
