Our favourite celebrity endorsement ever

Monday 25 June 2007
Because we've got a special squishy spot set aside just for her, we're delighted that Moulin Rouge, Dogsville and BMX Bandits actress, Nicole Kidman, has been announced as the star of a new ad campaign promoting Nintendo's Brain Training series. We're also dead pleased because the whole celebrity endorsement thing gives us a great excuse to dig up the classic Vic-20 commercial featuring Star Trek's, Bill 'Beam me up, Scotty' Shatner.

Without doubt, this is our favourite example of a famous sort being recruited to flog gaming wares - its '80s nostalgia and colour coordination at its most inexplicably awesome. So, before you watch Nicole's Nintendo debut tonight (ITV1 at 19.45) - in what we're willing to bet is going to be a very white, clinically approved production - check out Shatner selling 'The Wonder Computer of the 1980's' and see how it used to be done when all this was just 8-bit fields...

I don't have the energy to really hate anything properly. Most things I think are OK or inoffensively average. I do love quite a lot of stuff as well, though.
