Ontamarama has some cool, although peculiar, tunes drawn from all across the musical spectrum. Compared to other music games, like Dance Dance Revolution or the upcoming It’s a Wonderful World, the tunes are definitely different - but even in its oddity, it’s delightful to listen to. Overall, the world of Ontamarama is a strange one - even for the hardcore fans of Japanese role-playing games. It’s colorful (thanks to nice art direction) and the music does a good job portraying the game with style. If what Ontamarama was trying to do was advance the music game genre, it sort of has. But, if a sequel can better integrate the two strands of its gameplay, we could have a real hit.
