Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus is getting an HD remake, too

When Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty was nearing release, Oddworld Inhabitants confirmed that Abe's Exoddus, the original game's sequel, was next in line for an HD remake… assuming New 'n' Tasty sold enough. It looks like a sufficient number of people have welcomed the plucky mudokon into their hearts and hard drives, as series creator Lorne Lanning has confirmed that Abe's reworked adventure series will continue.

Lanning briefly laid out the future of the series on a Kinda Funny Games stream, where he also noted that Oddworld Inhabitants will take fan submissions for Exoddus' new subtitle. Remember, New 'n' Tasty refers back to the Mudokon Pops product line, which threatened to turn Abe's entire species into cheap snacks, so you'd better bring your dark humor "A" game.

Still, don't worry too much about the normally fresh-thinking Oddworld series getting bogged down in endless remakes. Assuming the Abe's Exoddus remake does well, Lanning said his studio should be "in a position where we can actually afford new triple-A class content from Oddworld IP".

That isn't just a Kickstarter overture, either - Lanning said the crowdfunding platform can be a "dangerous proposition", as many developers either ask for too much and get nothing, or ask for too little and can't make the game they actually wanted to make.
