No PS3-style probs for Wii

Thursday 7 September 2006
Nintendo has reaffirmed its commitment to launching its Wii console this year in the UK, following Sony's shock announcement yesterday that the European PS3 launch is delayed until 2007.

"Wii is still heading for a Q4 release, as we've always stated. The launch is on track," Nintendo's UK representative has assured us, soothing our worries that Wii could mirror Sony's failure to provide UK gamers with PS3 this November.

"Nintendo plans to ship six million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on 31 March 2007," we're told, meaning Sony will be lagging dramatically behind, even before the first PS3 is sold.

With Nintendo throwing a Wii party in little more than a week, we should finally be able to put your minds at rest with the official UK launch date - so don't go anywhere else.
