Nintendogs blamed for dog attack, 9-year-old's lip torn off

A large portion of 9-year-old Megan Walker’s upper lip was torn off after a Bullmastiff mauled her while playing Nintendogs on her Nintendo DS. According to Walker’s family, the dog went berserk when it heard the sound of barking from the game, reports the Daily Mail.

Fortunately, police officers were quick to put the torn piece of Walker’s lip on ice and doctors managed to re-attach it at Manchester Children’s Hospital during a 2-hour surgery. The Bullmastiff, Saracen, has been put to sleep by a vet after the owner signed it over for destruction.

“I think this game should carry some kind of warning. People should be told not to play it when there are dogs in the room.  I blame the game for what happened to Megan. If they hadn’t been playing it I don’t think the dog would have gone for her,” said the Walker’s grandmother, Jean Taylor.

The vicious attack occurred at the Melville’s residence down the street from Walker’s home where she was staying while her mother was out of the country on holiday. However, according to the Daily Mail, “Ms. Melville was unavailable for comment, but it is understood that she told police that Megan may have kicked Saracen and that is why he attacked her.”

"Call of Duty: World at War" should have a warning that your War Vet Grandpa may shoot you if you're playing the game with him in the room. Then again, maybe your war vet grandpa just hates you.

Its not the dogs fault it was just trying to defend its territory or something my dog doesnt do that though hes a wimp. But a least he didnt attack me when I played nintendogs years ago.

Dumbasses. The dog attacked because it's obviously not been socialized with other dogs. And if it's not that, then the girl kicked it. It's the family's fault.

JULIEPEEESGOODANGERBREWINGAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHH! i always say this and I'll say it again, never leave strong dogs around children, because one day that dog'll snap and go mad on the Girl. Plus the girl provoked the dog anyhow, so I don't know at ALL why she looks all innocent in that image, it's EVERYONES' fault besides the dog and the game. That gran pisses me off as well, she is such a PHILISTINE, and is ignorant at her own failures, plus, you never know, the dog may've wanted her to buy a PSP instead, lol. DX

Why is this any different to those books children get that make animal noises when you press a button? My nephew has loads of those books and my dog has never gone for him. This could have just as easily been a baby. Blame the dog, not the game.

"reports the Daily Mail." Oh FFS -_- I hope our American friends know that when a news story is followed or proceeded by the sentence "reports the Daily Mail" it's time to stop worrying about it. E.g:

You guys are a bunch of sad human beings. Reading most of these comments makes me want to puke. I hope all of you garner the same amount of sympathy you provide when you're the one who gets attacked and looses your face. Gamesradar are amongst the most pathetic group of people I've ever seen. Unbelievable.

"Destruction"? Unless they took machine guns and blew the dog to little pieces then that is not the right word. That dog was f*ckin' executed; if they have to sugar coat it than they should say "euthanized".
  • Fortunate34 - September 30, 2010 5:34 a.m.

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH A AHAHAHA AHHAH HA . HA! And I say that because I would have beat the sh*t out of that dog. Where were the parents? And the girl should know that if a HUGE DOG were attacking her, she should cover her freaking face. Fail.

In most places it is standard procedure to destroy an animal if it harms a person, regardless of circumstance. It's just another way humankind has placed a steel-toed boot to nature's neck.

Whoever put that dog to sleep outta be executed too

The dog clearly should be put down if he gets that agressive from simply hearing barking from the girl's direction
  • NappyAfro - September 30, 2010 1:37 a.m.

So from my understanding of reading the articles, I can assume that the dog started barking when he heard the barking from the girls DS, so she decided to kick him... and he retaliated. So the dog was put down even though he was antagonized by the girl and the grandmother wants to blame the game for all of it?

That's kind of a nasty way to learn a lesson about real dogs when playing a videogame. Nonetheless, one can not say that gaming experience wasn't informative. Games do teach important life lessons, after all. Dogs are territorial animals that tend to bite when they feel agitated, not furry little people filled with boundless love where blood and bile would be in lesser beings such as cats and ugly people. Dogs don't think that far ahead or that clearly no matter what Lassie (or Dogbert, if kids are really into Dilbert these days)would lead one to believe. Maybe she'll keep her eyes on the large breed dog in the room next time, not on the DS screen.

Stupid. It even says the dog was kicked before! How is that not "motive"!
