Nineteen Eighty-Four Tops Most Lied About Poll

George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four is the most popular book to pretend you've read to impress someone, according to a poll commissioned to celebrate World Book Day. 42% of people polled said they've lied about reading it (and a few probably thought watching Big Brother was like using Letts revision notes). It beat Tolstoy’s War And Peace into second place (with 31% of respondents pretending they'd read it) and the Bible into third (24%).
