EA's biggest change this year lies in the controls. EA loves those two analog sticks, and they're almost all you need to play NHL 07. The left analog stick controls player movement as usual. The right one acts as your player's hockey stick. Pull it back to wind up and then whip it forward to release a slap shot. Move it to the left and right to deke, then snap it forward again for a wrist shot. Slide it to the side then trace a circle backwards to perform a toe drag. When you're on defense, use it to lay out opponents with body checks. Why didn't anyone think of this before? You'll also need to use the right trigger to pass, but that's about all there is to it. After a short tutorial and a few shootouts, we started to get the really like this new approach. The first time we dangled the puck to the right and then slid it onto our backhand and put it passed a stunned goalie, we were sold.
It may have taken a while, but EA hockey is coming to the 360, and NHL 07 doesn't plan to disappoint. While you wait, grab a stress ball and start exercising those thumbs - you'll need them.
