It just might solve PSP and PS3's software problems

GamesIndustry.biz reportsthat Sony is almost ready to roll with its PlayStation download service. According to GI - via an interview with Japanese business website NikkeiBP - the service will begin to offer downloadable PSone games this November, which just so happens to be about the same time the PS3 launches. You'll be able to stick 'em on your PS3, PC or PSP, if all goes well. Unfortunately, the company is keeping tight wraps on any further details. Given Sony's general attitude and online history, well... we'll believe it when we see it.

Plug and don't play

Sony has announced a formal release for two new PSP add-ons - the GPS receiver and camera. Though a US date and price are still unknown on both, the camera hits Japan on November 2, while the GPS slides into stores on December 7. In Japan, the camera will cost around $43 (or 5000 yen) while the GPS will set you back $52 (that's 6000 yen.) The most notable function of the GPS so far is an undisclosed feature in the upcomingMetal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. We don't doubt that something more practical might come of it, but this is Sony, after all. Who's still playing EyeToy?

For a quick look at the devices, hop on over toSony's official site(in Japanese, of course). The bad news: it looks like you won't be able to plug in both at the same time. Time to buy a bigger carrying case!

Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

Another week, another classic. Guitar Hero II is confirmed to receive the tender licks of Nirvana's 1993 classic Heart Shaped Box. This song, which was a big MTV hit at the time - can you imagine it? - contains cheery lyrics such as those which title this blurb. Thank god Courtney Love needs cash for liposuction and rehab, eh? Our British sister site, GamesRadar UK, has the confirmed song list for the game thus far, sohead on over and take a ganderif you need to.

Lost Odyssey found

What do you do when you can't get Final Fantasy? Yeah, we do know aboutFFXIbut, let's be blunt, here. We don't count it. Well, if you're Microsoft, what you do is hire Hironobu Sakaguchi, the series' original creator, to churn out some hits - namelyBlue Dragonand Lost Odyssey (seen above). That's not the news, though. No, the news is that his company, Mistwalker, has opened itshomepage, and it's not half-bad. There's pretty art, game screenshotsand English text to read, so if you want to learn about these eagerly-anticipated-for-no-really-good-reason games, you could waste your time a worse way.

Resident what?

GamesRadar UKbrings us news that the voice actress behind Resident Evil heroine Jill Valentine has recorded some lines - problem is, she doesn't know what new game it's for. Could it be Resident Evil 5, already confirmed for the 360 and PS3? What about a new Wii title, as the rumors would have it these days? Nobody can say. And that's where we're forced to wrap this one up.

A punch in the face

For the PlayStation 3 version of Fight Night Round 3, things are getting nastier. Newly revealed today is the first-person mode, designed to put you directly into the action. It's not just about the perspective you view the action from - the game's audiovisual effects will simulate what it's like to be relentlessly beaten in the head. "Ear ringing, simulated loss of hearing, and restricted vision that mimics the effects of eye swelling and damage as well as flashes of bright light, color shifts and blur," producer Michael Blank offers. Great. Remind us why realism is fun, again? If you want to take a look, just step over to ourscreenshots pagefor the game to get your fill of being menaced by sweaty men.
