New Witch Show From Vampire Diaries Creators

Having adapted one LJ Smith book series for TV, Kevin Williamson moves onto another

Kevin Williamson is hoping to repeat the success of the TV version of The Vampire Diaries by adapting another book series by Diaries author LJ Smith into a television series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , The CW network has commissioned an hour-long pilot called Secret Circle based on a Smith’s series of books about a young girl who discovers that she’s a witch. She’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil.

The pilot is executive produced and written by Kevin Williamson and Andrew Miller. Elizabeth Craft, Sarah Fain, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo also are executive producing Circle .

Considering how good – and how underused – Bonnie is on The Vampire Diaries , you might be thinking perhaps they should just make it a spin-off series, with her in the lead. But here things get slightly confusing. Williamson was , apparently, working on a companion series to The Vampire Diaries , but he recently told CW execs that he was too busy with his Diaries duties to flesh out the spin-off. And now, suddenly, he’s working on Secret Circle .
