Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 footage shows off the CGI wizardry behind the turtles

Watch any scene from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and it's easy to see how inventive its visual effects and mo-cap technology are. Where there were no turtles, there's now four. In the age of CGI, that's nothing new, but when you really think about it, who's Megan Fox reacting to? Not four tennis balls on sticks. It can't be.

Paramount has shed some light on how the movie comes together during production in this new reel of behind-the-scenes footage. Even if you're not a fan of the pizza-lovin' ninja brothers, it's a blast seeing how it all works:

The four actors involved are decked out in grey mo-cap gear, covering them head to toe, including their extra large shells. The tech feeds their movements back to the monitors allowing for the director to get an approximate idea of how they'll eventually look. While the movie might not be a huge improvement over the first, it's still totally bodacious seeing the actors (Noel Fischer, Jeremy Howard, Peter Ploszek, Alan Ritchson) interacting on set to create the turtles' sibling magic.

Directed by Dave Green and starring Megan Fox, Stephen Amell, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, and Tyler Perry, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is out in UK and US cinemas now.
