New legacy trailer roars in for Mad Max: Fury Road

A new “legacy trailer” has arrived online for Mad Max: Fury Road, in which some vintage footage from the original film series is lined up alongside a new batch of steampunk mayhem from the forthcoming release.

It’s quite a bold move to display the well-loved original alongside the reboot, but somehow it works. If anything, it serves to show how much of the original spirit has been preserved, with the new film doing a fine job of replicating the practical-effects carnage of its predecessor.

The more we see of Fury Road, the more batshit mental it looks. Although as the first half of the trailer handily demonstrates, that’s very much what the franchise was built on…

Directed by George Miller and co-starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, Mad Max: Fury Road will open in the UK on 14 May 2015 and the US the following day.
