New Left 4 Dead DLC release date announced, Zoey getting a chainsaw

Valve has just announced the release date for ‘The Sacrifice,’ new DLC that’s coming out for both Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2. ‘The Sacrifice’ will be a prequel to ‘The Passing,’ and will follow the original four survivors as they make their way South. The DLC will also introduce what Valve is calling ‘Sacrificial Gameplay,’ which has players decide who will die in order for the group to move on.

The Sacrifice will be available for both Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2, but they are separate downloads. Those who download the DLC for L4D1 will get the Sacrifice campaign in addition to maps for the Versus and Survival modes.

Those who download the DLC for L4D2 will get ‘The Sacrifice’ campaign as well, but will be playing as the original Left 4 Dead survivors. But L4D2 players will also get the ‘No Mercy’ campaign. According to Valve, “Both campaigns are playable in Campaign, Versus, Survival, and Scavenge modes and both will feature the Left 4 Dead 2 Special Infected, items, and weapons. Yes, Zoey with a chainsaw!”

‘The Sacrifice’ is scheduled for a targeted release on October 5 and will be available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE. Of course, PC gamers will be getting it for free.

Fails. I only have 300msp left and won't be able to get the DLC for L4D2 until like early December.

L4D2 weapons with L4D1 characters? its the best of both games!!!

@BonafideMyth: I think that the game will let you complete the mission by yourself if you get to the "Sacrifice point" with only 1 player still alive. @everyone else: 560 MS points is much better than the current "standard" set by MW2 of 1200 MS points

So L4D1 gets DLC map and L4D2 special infected in the one DLC campaign. L4D2 gets DLC map, plus No Mercy and playable L4D1 survivors. Why buy for L4D1? (other than somebody that has only L4D1)

What if I'm the only one left towards the end of the Campaign? Then who will Sacrifice? Also I'm pretty sure I can handle 3 tanks at once...especially since I play on easy.

Uber cool. People bitched a shitload about L4D2 coming out so soon after the first, but I'm already aching for new characters and a new setting. So far, the settings have been a bit generic: I would really love some "name-brand" cities and realistically modeled sections of NY or Seattle or SanFran. Also, L4D3: Japan would be awesome too, as your article proved way back.

@BadLadJon and we get custom content :-) but then i remember i need a new graphics card :(
  • BadLadJon - September 27, 2010 8:11 p.m.

Abox gets exlusives, PS3 gets exclusives, us PC gamers get free DLC, SUCK THAT!
  • JMAN1156 - September 27, 2010 7:59 p.m.

WHAT!?! They are adding the new special infected and weapons to l4d!?! l4d 2 is a terrible game compared to l4d 1 because of pacing and other things that throws off the balance, and now they are adding it to l4d... grrr, leave that stuff in l4d2
  • Crabhand - September 27, 2010 7:52 p.m.

Ugh, need to get my computer fixed. And I need to get L4D2 but... priorities.
  • 8bitBaby - September 27, 2010 7:49 p.m.

cool. but the official canon ending is that bill sacrificed himself for the others to continue right? i thought that was cool. what an awesome old dude he was.

Sounds cool. Would sound cooler without that 560MSP bit but never mind...
