Star Trek Into Darkness has released a new image online in which Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Kirk (Chris Pine) can be seen interrogating Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain from behind a glass screen.

It looks like Starfleet favour the same kind of glass-fronted holding cells as S.H.I.E.L.D. do, although hopefully Cumberbatch’s character won’t be able to do quite as much damage as Loki managed from his.

We still don’t know very much about Cumberbatch’s character’s motivations (despite a very obvious appetite for destruction), but what we do know is that he is Starfleet (or ex-Starfleet) and he has a history with the crew.

Paramount has now named the character as John Harrison, although whether or not that turns out to be a red-herring pseudonym remains to be seen. Interestingly, Alice Eve has also been named as Carol Marcus, a character older Trek fans will remember from Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan , eventually giving birth to Kirk’s son.

Directed by J.J. Abrams and co-starring Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin, Star Trek Into Darkness will open in the UK on 17 May 2013.
