New Harry Potter revealed

Shazam wand wavers! EA has confirmed that a Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire game will be released to coincide with the movie's opening in November.

Based on the fourth book in JK Rowling's well thumbed series, players will take the role of adolescent alakazam artist Potter as he competes in an international hocus-pocus competition called the Triwizard Tournament.

A sort of sorcerer's sports day, competitors in the tournament will, amongst other fantastical things, have to confront a fire-breathing dragon - as illustrated in the images on the right.

Sidekicks Ron and Hermione will be playable characters, and a cooperative mode will allow up to three players to "combine their magic and produce more powerful spells than ever before".

An all-new spell casting system will be introduced and will allow players to "feel the magic as the controller shakes and reacts with every flick of the wand".

Reassuringly, Goblet of Fire is being developed at EA UK, who were responsible for all the previous Potter games, all of which have been surprisingly good, especially when you consider the dross other publishers churn out for movie tie-ins aimed at a younger market.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be released for DS, GBA, Gamecube, PC, PSP, PS2 and Xbox in November
