New character to star in The Last of Us DLC

The first of three DLC packs for The Last of Us will launch on October 16 in the form of the Abandoned Territories map pack, Naughty Dog said today in a post of the PlayStation Blog. It will be followed by story-based single player DLC later this winter and another multiplayer pack in 2014.

Abandoned Territories map Suburbs will take place amid a dynamic dust storm, while Bus Depot is described as a layered map set in an overgrown urban environment. The moonlit Hometown map has been designed to encourage stealth, while Bookstore’s bi-level layout promotes vertical action.

The studio’s first ever story driven single player DLC is currently scheduled for release "around the December-January timeframe”. It promises to deliver an "ambitious story with strong ties into the narrative" of the main game. Naughty Dog says it’s due to start its performance capture shoot next week after concluding a “long casting process for a new character”.

A second multiplayer DLC pack will be released in the first half of 2014. All three packs are available to pre-purchase as part of a $19.99 / €19.99 season pass, which offers a 30 per cent saving over picking up the three packs individually. On top of that, Naught Dog said today that it will add 60 different head items for multiplayer characters to the season pass offering. These will also be made available separately.
