New Batman: Arkham City screens are like the Penguin: Small, but significant

Earlier today our sister site Official Xbox Magazine (US) posted an in-depth, exclusive hands-on with 2011’s most anticipated title, Arkham City. While their insightful preview is totally worth your time, what struck us immediately is that the story had six never-before-seen screens from the game. With closer looks at Penguin, Riddler and Bats’ many gadgets, these look great. If only they were a little bigger…

All these images are keeping the hype train for Arkham City moving at a fever pitch. And again, be sure to read OXM’s exclusive hands-on for the most recent info on the game.

2011's most anticipated title? What? Can we say Uncharted 3 anyone? But this does look like its gunna rock.

@nadrewod As sad as this news may be, the voice of Harley is no longer the same voice from the animated series. GR did a little spot on it a bit ago. Harley will now be voiced by Tara Strong, but she sounds pretty damn close. Never even realized it was a different voice actor until GR did the spot on it.

@Fraught Keep an eye on Steam tomorrow. They're at the end of their summer sale and it's rumoured they'll do an encore day of all the top sellers, one of which will no doubt be Arkham Asylum. They were selling it for about £3.50 (around $5 if you're stateside), which is crazy good value for how good a game it was. It was also the GOTY version IIRC.

I haven't even played Arkham Asylum, but yet I'm still weirdly pumped for this game. Seems awesome even without Arkham Asylum's "legacy". I've really got to get and play Arkham Asylum.

@Bantha_Fodder, You are right, but in more ways than you listed (and possibly, more than you know). I am pretty sure that Harley Quinn has the same voice from the Animated Series, and I know Joker is his same old crazy self from the AS (although he has publicly stated that Arkham City will be his curtain call from playing the mad clown: let's hope this game lets him go out with a bang instead of a whimper). As for the death-traps, a lot of the things from Asylum were pretty much within Joker's standard range of crime (killer laughing gas, exploding chatty teeth, turning other villains loose on Bats so Joker could have more time to prepare his final surprise, etc.), and the acid vat for Catwoman and remotely-blown-up computer sniper for Joker also appeared to be standard fare for a mix of Burton-verse and AS. P.S. Please forgive any misspellings. My keyboard is starting to act up, and I want to get the most out of the batteries in this before I replace them, meaning a few missed signals are bound to occur.

@Angstycliche I lol'd, since his pupils look like pinpoints... can't WAIT for this... it looks like a cross between the Tim Burton-verse, the Animated Series, and the Adam West Show. It has the darkness of the Burton Films, the voice actors and varied villains from the Animated Series, and the amazing death traps of the Adam West Show. this is going to be the best Batman experience ever.

Which leads me to the question; How many gargoyles can a city contain? Batman is starting to look more and more like the hunchback of the notre dame. But then more cool. And without a hunchback.
