Neill Blomkamp talks Halo movie

Neill Blomkamp is preparing to unveil his next sci-fi extravaganza in the form of the Matt Damon-starring Elysium , but has also taken the time to comment on the abortive Halo adaptation he had previously been attached to.

The project is now dead in the water, but Blomkamp reveals he is still a fan of the videogame property, if only he had been allowed to make it his way.

“I actually still really like the universe and the world of Halo and the mythology of Halo ,” explains the director. “If I was given control, I would like to do that film, but that’s the problem.

“When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of 'I have my interpretation of what that is,' but along with it comes like 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property and then the entire film-going audience has their interpretation that you can live up to or fail in their eyes.”

Meanwhile, Elysium has released a brand new poster, featuring a back-on shot of Matt Damon’s protagonist sporting what appears to be a kind of mechanical exoskeleton. Expect more to be revealed when the trailer arrives later today…

Elysium opens in the UK on 20 September 2013.
