NBC cancels Hannibal

Bad news for fans of Mads Mikkelsen's blood-spattered portrayal of everyone's favourite cannibal, as NBC has officially announced its decision to cancel Hannibal after a three-season run.

Despite strong reviews and a loyal core fanbase, the show was never the big ratings-winner that NBC had hoped it might become, and the network has now decided to call time on the show after the completion of its third season. However, producer Bryan Fuller's departing statement does hint at a potential future for the show through another channel...

"NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared," said Fuller, "and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers."

"Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure. Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC." Hopefully, Hannibal might yet find itself a home on Netflix or Amazon, but for now it looks like that bottle of Chianti will be going back in the cellar…
