Natalie Portman Offered Jolie-Vacated Role In Gravity

Last week the internet was full of reports that director Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi thrill Gravity was in a state of collapse thanks to Angelina Jolie pulling out. Now it looks like it could all be back on again…

It could be a quite meaty role for Portman, certainly more of a “serious acting” role than women would normally get in sci-fi movies, which some are saying could require the kind of performance Tom Hanks gave in Castaway . The $80 million, 3D survival story, which was co-written by Cuaron and his son, is about a woman stranded alone on a damaged space station. Robert Downey Jr has already has committed to a supporting role, but Portman would carry the bulk of the film. Blimey, could an actor in a sci-fi film finally get an Oscar nomination?
