My Life In Ruins review

Nia Vardalos is the game gal who didn’t mind making a fool of herself in her self-penned surprise hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

In this attempted comeback, which she didn’t write, Vardalos plays a similarly lovelorn Greek American, relocated to Athens and working as a tour guide for a group of unimaginative international stereotypes.

Could the laconic, hirsute coach driver (Alexis Georgoulis) be the Adonis she’s looking for under that hobo beard? What do you think?

Vardalos’ peppy charm and the postcard scenery make for pleasant diversions, but there’s no getting away from the script’s mawkishness.
