The Spider-Man reboot gets its first leading lady

We have yet to see so much as a still of Tom Holland's new Spider-Man, who will be making his debut in next month's Captain America: Civil War. However, we now have some more information on who he'll be sharing the screen with in Spidey's new solo film.

Deadline is reporting that actress-singer Zendaya has landed a role in Jon Watts' Spider-Man reboot. Exactly who she's playing is a closely guarded secret, and while earlier reports stated that she was going to play a major part in the film, according to Variety it isn't a lead role and she won't be Peter Parker's love interest.

In addition to being a popstar, Zendaya has had guest roles in Black-ish and she is also the star of Disney Channel's Shake it Up! Just because she won't be the love interest in the reboot doesn't necessarily mean that she won't eventually become one - Variety's report stated that Zendaya will "play a bigger part in future installments" - so anyone from Black Cat to Liz Allen is a possibility at this point. Speculate away!

Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, and Zendaya, the as yet untitled Spider-Man reboot will swing into cinemas on July 7, 2017.
