For the Wii version of Armageddon, Midway’s added a number of features. Sadly, we haven’t had the chance to test-drive any of them, as Armageddon was a notable no-show at Midway Gamers’ Day in Las Vegas; thankfully Ed Boon - one of the Mortal Kombat creators - was on hand to show off a movie of what’s new and improved. But the game was absent from the show floor. Why? They didn’t say. We suspect treachery.
In any case, the Wii version will sport a new Endurance Mode, which we presume to be a survival-based minigame, as well as specialized remote controls. Now, instead of memorizing complex button combinations, you can simply move the remote around to fire off your character’s special attacks and implement moves in the Kreate-a-Fatality system. Throwing Scorpion’s trademark spear is now as easy as moving the remote from side to side.
The result, hopefully, is the most accessible Mortal Kombat in the history of the series. But should that not tickle your punching-and-kicking-über-violence fancy, the game will also support GameCube and Wii Classic controllers, too.
