More Final Fantasy on the way

Square Enix could well be developing more games based on the Final Fantasy XIII universe beyond the three that were announced at the recent E3 games show.

The new additions are Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII for the PlayStation 3, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII for mobile. All three are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, which has been designed from the beginning to allow for different projects to exist in the same universe. More details on the FFXIII projects are availablehere.

During a recent presentation in Japan, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada used a chart to illustrate the company's future products, which showed three empty spaces next to the three games announced at E3.

While nothing was officially confirmed, it does seem that Square is hoping to use the Fabula Nova Crystallis "brand" extensively over the next few years, rather than relying on adding another sequel to the Final Fantasy series.

In the same presentation, Wada mentioned that we can expect a lot more from the Final Fantasy VII universe, too, as he mentioned that Square sees the game as a "20-year project."

With FFVII nearing its 10-year anniversary, it's already been revisited with the Compilation of Final Fantasy VIIseries that included the Advent Children DVD, but it seems that Square has plans for another 10 years of RPGing with Cloud and company.
