Though many Call of Duty fans have already decided on their HD platform of choice for the next iteration of the billion dollar franchise, Activision hasn’t forgotten that a good chunk of the money they made with last year’s version was earned from the decidedly standard definition Nintendo Wii. Just as was the case with Call of Duty: Black Ops, the publisher has confirmed that they will be releasing a Wii Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 day and date with the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions.
The announcement was made during a post-earnings conference call earlier today, but there was no information given besides the verification of the Wii version’s November 8th release date. That said, no further details are really needed. Anyone who played Modern Warfare or Black Ops on the Wii likely knows what the experience will entail: a fairly feature-complete version of the game, save for the lower resolution and some (minorly) scaled-back multiplayer features. It’ll still be big, epic, and explosive… just within the confines of what the Wii is capable of.
The last few versions of Call of Duty on the Wii have been fairly well-made, especially considering how many developers phone in their ports to the system, and there’s no reason to think that this one won’t be as well. Well, as long as the game itself is, which we won’t know for sure until it’s released.
Hopefully, Activision will release more information as the release approaches, but we’re going to guess that they’re going to stick to promoting the HD versions of the game, just as they have in the past. Odds are they don’t want to confuse people by releasing a trailer for the biggest game of the year that can only be downloaded in 480p.
