Modern Warfare 3 is Wii-bound

Shares

Though many Call of Duty fans have already decided on their HD platform of choice for the next iteration of the billion dollar franchise, Activision hasn’t forgotten that a good chunk of the money they made with last year’s version was earned from the decidedly standard definition Nintendo Wii. Just as was the case with Call of Duty: Black Ops, the publisher has confirmed that they will be releasing a Wii Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 day and date with the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions.

The announcement was made during a post-earnings conference call earlier today, but there was no information given besides the verification of the Wii version’s November 8th release date. That said, no further details are really needed. Anyone who played Modern Warfare or Black Ops on the Wii likely knows what the experience will entail: a fairly feature-complete version of the game, save for the lower resolution and some (minorly) scaled-back multiplayer features. It’ll still be big, epic, and explosive… just within the confines of what the Wii is capable of.

The last few versions of Call of Duty on the Wii have been fairly well-made, especially considering how many developers phone in their ports to the system, and there’s no reason to think that this one won’t be as well. Well, as long as the game itself is, which we won’t know for sure until it’s released.

Hopefully, Activision will release more information as the release approaches, but we’re going to guess that they’re going to stick to promoting the HD versions of the game, just as they have in the past. Odds are they don’t want to confuse people by releasing a trailer for the biggest game of the year that can only be downloaded in 480p.

I am one of those unfortunate people who owns just a wii (as well as lots of other pre-current gen consoles), so this is actually great news. I bought black ops on the wii and that was a cracking game, though lacking visually compared to it's HD big brothers and missing out on some features (no local multiplayer!). I will be getting MW3 on wii I think unless I finally cave and decide to get a PS3, though I am now tempted to save my cash until the inevitable next gen arrives. And with the sparse wii release schedule, the more games coming to wii in the coming months the better! I just hope they add some sort of local multiplayer, even if it's just adding in your friends to an online match. Having to wait around for everyone to have their go is just lame. :-)

@tr1ggerf1nger Does CoD3 on the wii really look as bad as the picture? I've not seen it running on wii myself but that picture looks like a bad PS2 version or something. I know looks aren't everything but, they are kind of important though, aren't they?

I got CoD3 for the Wii many moons ago, and I'm in the minority here: after acclimating myself to the control scheme, it felt pretty responsive, almost too easy to aim using the Wii remote. It was great. Alas, I've since been playing CoD on the PS3, and when I revisited CoD3 on the Wii for the first time in years about a month ago, wow, the controls didn't feel right anymore. Part of me wishes I would've kept playing CoD on the Wii. Then I see my PS3, looking all sexy in the living room...

Why would you own a Wii if you wanted to play games like this?

That picture isnt very accurate...the word "KNIFE"would be blury too

I've always admired the dedication that has gone into making the Wii CoD's as true to their bigger brothers as possible. Yes, everyone knows they'll be technically inferior to the PC/360/PS3 versions but it's a little unfair to compare them to begin with. Though I couldn't help but laugh at the pic...

Loved that picture. Black Ops on the wii was awful. It was so unresponsive and the button layout was horrendous, especially when playing with a wii zapper.

I think it's great that they are making this on Wii but rather than make me want to buy it, this article has just served to underline how far behind the Wii has fallen as a platform for serious games. I agree that they will not promote it much as it's clearly inferior (tech wise) to what the game should look like when played on PC, PS3 and 360. Personally I prefer standard controllers to wii motion anyway. I hope Nintendo aren't making the same mistake with the Wii-U, if they launch it first how can they ensure that the inevitable PS4 or Xbox 720 don't leave it behind all over again when they arrive on the scene.

I only own a Wii, and recently I have been playing nothing but Black Ops (with Wiimote and nunchuck) multiplayer. Can't wait for MW3!

Sadly Im one of those people who only owns a Wii...right now its all I can afford seeing as how I have no job at the moment Ive tried playing Black Ops with the Wii-mote...and wow...if anything,I would go with the Classic Controller Pro..much smoother control scheme and it makes me feel like Im playing on a system that doesnt have a game called "Ninja-Bread Man" in its game library

They Zapper is fun for some stupid arcade style fun. About a 100% chance this will be a cash-in to bilk Wii-only owners like a pathetic movie tie-in game would.

Zapper, no. Wii remote and nunchuck takes time to learn, but is a solid control scheme
