MMO The Secret World to be co-published by EA

MMOs are a risky business venture, but developer Funcom has managed to beat the odds, and is gaining EA as a publishing partner for its latest venture.

The Secret World is a project eight years in the making, and it should (ideally) be out relatively soon. Unlike many MMOs, The Secret World does not involve classes or levels, and many of the environments are based on real-world locations like New York City, London, and Egypt.

The developer behind the game has managed to achieve notoriety for its success with Anarchy Online and Age of Conan, two games with loyal and happy fans (if not World of Warcraft status).

For the first time, mega-ultra publishing giant EA is taking Funcom under its wing and using its prowess to catapult The Secret World to new levels. That's the goal, anyway.

"The experience and the knowledge that Electronic Arts brings to the table will be instrumental in allowing us to realize the full potential of 'The Secret World,'" said Funcom CEO Tron Arne Aas in a statement.

The Secret World does not yet have a release date, but keep an eye on the game's official website for more information: www.darkdaysarecoming.com.
