One thing The Show has become known for is its realism; trying to break a player into the big time is no small task. It took us multiple times just to make the team with this preview build and pass all of our spring training requirements. It was doable but it was tough, as it should be. The hitting, though tighter, will still take work, and heaven forbid you let your self slip into a multi-game slump with the new Progressive Batting Performance feature, which tallies your performance over your last 20-30 at-bats. You’ll get a contact boost if your batting average goes up but it’ll nosedive if you strike out excessively, so keep your eye on that ball.
There’s still plenty to do via Road to the Show - quickplay and Home Run Derby are still a hoot and the Franchise mode lets you manhandle the entire team if that’s your cup of beer. We’ll be there to see the ceremonial pitch thrown on March 4 when MLB 08 The Show slides into retail. Check back then for our full written PS2 review then.
