Michael Kenneth Williams joins RoboCop

RoboCop 's all-star cast continues to go from strength to strength, with the latest addition coming in the form of Michael Kenneth Williams, perhaps best known as the shotgun-toting Omar from HBO's The Wire .

According to Heat Vision , Williams is currently in talks to play the police officer who partnered Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) before he was shot down and transformed into RoboCop. In the remake, he is set to remain close to the Murphy family.

Given that Williams made off with practically every scene he appeared in throughout The Wire , his addition to the RoboCop ensemble is a really exciting one. If nothing else, the man has charisma to burn.

Should he sign on the dotted line, Williams will join a starry collection of actors including Gary Oldman as RoboCop's creator, Samuel L. Jackson as a powerful media mogul, Hugh Laurie as a shadowy corporate villain, Jackie Earle Haley as RoboCop's trainer, Jay Baruchel as Omnicorp's head of marketing and Abbie Cornish as Murphy's wife.

Directed by Jose Padilha, RoboCop will begin filming in Toronto next month ahead of a UK release on 9 August 2013. This one looks better by the week…
