Michael Jackson MMO aims to ‘foster global friendships’

SEE Virtual Worlds has just unveiled what may be the strangest MMO we’ve ever heard of. Prepare yourself for Planet Michael, a virtual world that will host entire continents designed to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson.

“When we first approached the Estate and talked about creating Planet Michael, one of our primary goals was to build an interactive environment where fans from all over the world come together to affirm Michael’s life-long dedication to fostering global friendships,” says SEE Virtual Worlds CEO Martin Biallas. "In building a space worthy of those global connections, we envisioned a magical, enjoyable place that will capture that zest for fun and life that was at Michael's very core. Throughout his extensive career, the King of Pop was well-known for his visionary contributions to music, dance, fashion, entertainment and philanthropy, and it was critical that we somehow incorporate all of those elements into the game."

Planet Michael is scheduled to launch in late 2011. It will be free to download and will not charge any monthly fees. However, the game will host an in-game economy that will let players take on different jobs and in certain cases, contribute to a charitable cause. We suspect that this is where micro-transactions will come into play. It seems that money still has its place, even in the magical and philanthropic world of Planet Michael.

Above: Planet Michael isn’t just any Michael Jackson online game. It’s the ultimate Michael Jackson online game

Above: Look closely, and you'll see a very lonely man dancing on the rooftop in the background. Looks like someone could use more global friendships!

  • JohnDagger - September 22, 2010 1:09 p.m.

Ok so let me get this straight... MJ cameo in a great game (plants vs zombies) = bad MJ staring in probably the worst MMO of all time = acceptable .... :|

So this is going to support Kinect and Move right? Because c'mon.... how else can you touch children 's hearts?
  • Mooshon - September 22, 2010 8:05 a.m.

Loot some jesus juice and get pwned by MJ... 'triffic.
  • shemhamforash - September 22, 2010 6:58 a.m.

When you grind your MJ to level 40, you can get a mount that won't tell anything to he's parents.

I'm with Tyler Nagata on this, I want there to be lots of grinding (character stats: World Love +50, Friends -500). And quests. And big monsters. Oh yeah, and a job class system! I want to be a Dark Knight, or as it might be called in this game, a Thriller Knight! Yay!

The man's gone but his crazy lingers on...
  • yoyoguy - September 22, 2010 12:20 a.m.

    i'd play it... maybe.
  • Vulneratus - September 21, 2010 11:48 p.m.

Everything on Planet Michael looks purple... Billie Jean is not my lover, She's just a girl who sez that I am the one... but that game does not look fun.

  • ShaneCedt - September 21, 2010 11:11 p.m.

Can you save children and transform into a mega-Michealbot?
  • ThePurpleDragon - September 21, 2010 10:50 p.m.

Oh yeah! Free to play? About Michael Jackson? MMO? Can you make a guess on what internet imageboard is going to have some fun with this?

sounds like a griefer's paradise to me. and what's with that "fostering global friendships" crap? the first thing i see happening is a bunch of MJ fans getting on the second it releases, and then a vast army of trolls, (myself included) getting on to terrorize. sounds like global friendship to me.

This new is OFF THE WALL! I personally think this kind of behaviour is BAD and DANGEROUS. I can hear him from beyond the grave, screaming "LEAVE ME ALONE"! Oh well, I guess it's just HUMAN NATURE.
  • keefster - September 21, 2010 10:09 p.m.

the beatles mmmo. yessssss. Much better than an MJ in my opninion! there could be quests involving exciting chases to escape wild fans, drug deals gone wrong, and epic fights between each beatle. Plus you could plug in a guitar peripheral and play some sweet tunes.

    A steak house!
  • Turboash - September 21, 2010 9:55 p.m.

^^^ Ba-dum CHA! Also, this will fail harder than anything that has failed before.
  • JPorFavor - September 21, 2010 9:54 p.m.

And if the can make a Michael Jackson MMO, how come they can't make a Beatles MMO? Just imagine fighting in the green fields, slaying eggmen, then finally, the walrus. Goo goo g'job!
  • GamesRadarTylerNagata - September 21, 2010 9:53 p.m.

I hope there's lots of grinding.
