Seven shiny new Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain screens have emerged online showing off Snake with his trusty canine pal, Diamond Dog and hurtling across the desert on horseback. The screens in the gallery above also feature Snake scouting out an outpost as well as going for a slightly more explosive than stealthy approach when it comes to enemy dispatch.
Plus, we've got a bit of a spoiler in the new issues of OXM and OPM (out today) with the official artwork below revealing out first good look at numbers five's actual Metal Gear:
Now, we've already seen a brief glimpse of this in a XOF hanger from a trailer, but the placing in the official art makes it clear it wasn't just set dressing when it first appeared:
The mag art gives a much clearer look at what appears to be a prototype Metal Gear REX (which originally appeared in MGS1). As you can see, it's equipped with the later model's rail gun but has a larger, more old fashioned radar dome instead of the flatter disk. There's also that skull decal, tying in with XOF's leader, Skull Face.
Previously, in the 60s set MGS3, the Metal Gear role was filled by the Shagohod. That was more of a tank than a bipedal robot. Moving on to this 80s Metal Gear in MGS5 brings us much more in line with MGS1's first 90s REX model. It's only really that radar dish that marks a difference. Compare it to the 'original' model here:
