Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Whichever method you go for, one thing you won't be doing in the early stages of the game is searching for Samus's missing abilities. Unlike previous Metroid titles, the bounty-hunting heroine is almost fully tooled-up from the beginning, with a single main weapon that gets augmented as the game goes on. However, she has a more pressing problem than locating additional gear.

In Corruption she's infected by Phazon, a potent source of power which can be tapped to enable enhanced abilities but will build up to fatal levels if it's used too often. It's possible to switch between normal Samus and Phazon Samus at any time, but you'll have to moderate its use, a bit like the black suit in Spider-Man 3.

Entire planets are infected with Phazon, so Samus has to travel to different worlds, using her Phazon abilities where appropriate to pass through areas that would otherwise be deadly. While there isn't any direct control of the space flight sequences between planets, a new visor allows you to call on the mothership in certain areas, providing airstrikes and tractor beams where required.

Multiplayer is, it seems, completely off the menu now. Unless there's something they've managed to keep incredibly quiet, Corruption is entirely an offline, solo experience. But with the level of polish we expect to see from this game - the real hardcore flagship title for Wii - we're probably not going to miss it. Bring it on, Samus.
