First look at Avengers: Infinity War shows Thor's new weapon and the Avengers and Guardians together at last

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been waiting since 2012 to see the big bad Thanos don the Infinity Gauntlet and face off against the good guys, and now Marvel Studios has finally unveiled its first behind-the-scenes video from the massive Atlanta production of Avengers: Infinity War. It’s full of interviews with key filmmakers like mastermind producer Kevin Feige and co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, it confirms once and for all that the Guardians of the Galaxy are absolutely going to be in the movie, and perhaps most intriguingly, it features some concept art that caused me to raise an eyebrow. Have a look:

Let’s take a closer look at that concept art, shall we? First up, there’s Tony Stark standing in front of a new batch of Iron Man suits:

Notice the “Stark Industries” logo in the background. I wonder if this means Tony is standing in his own personal facility instead of Avengers HQ, and what that could mean about his status with the rest of the team. In a Facebook Live video (below) answering fan questions, star Robert Downey Jr. confirmed that Captain America is “on [Tony’s] ‘s’ list,” and the main video goes out of its way to remind us how the events of Civil War tore them all apart. Co-director Joe Russo catches us up with Stark’s mindset: “Tony senses this greater threat approaching,” he explains, “so he is doing everything in his power to keep the Earth safe.”

Also, get a load of Thor’s new weapon as he teams up with Guardians of Galaxy’s Rocket:

I’ve seen some speculation that the God of Thunder may be holding a battle axe called Jarnbjorn. Whatever he’s holding certainly appears to have a blade on it, so Jarnbjorn is a pretty solid guess — especially considering (spoiler alert for Thor: Ragnarok) the rumors that Cate Blanchett’s villain Hela destroys Mjolnir in that movie. Looks like Thor has found a new weapon, and just seeing him frozen in place on the field of battle next to a gun-toting Rocket has me excited about the ridiculous combinations of characters we’re going to see in action in this movie.

And then there’s a new look at Thanos himself:

Looks like he’s rocking a vest in that one. Nothing tactical, much more of a casual style… which leaves me with all sorts of questions. Do we get to see inside Thanos’ closet in this movie? What would that even look like? Does he don any other menswear (or is it “godswear”?) in the film? These may be the most pressing questions of all.

Here’s that Facebook Live video from Downey that I mentioned earlier, in which he enlisted the help of Spider-Man star Tom Holland to hold the camera. Check it out:

As the culmination of everything we’ve seen from the MCU thus far, Infinity War is certainly aiming to be one of the biggest blockbuster movies of all time. If the Russos’ previous Marvel films are any indication, they shouldn’t have any trouble wrestling all of the necessary components together and striking a balance between action and character that will please fans. Here’s hoping it kicks some serious ass.
