McG officially playing Ouija

Terminator Salvation

Director McG has won Universal’s vote, and has officially signed on to make action film Ouija .

Previously, the Terminator Salvation director was battling it out against Breck Eisner ( The Crazies ) for the gig. Both pitched their take on the material to the studio.

McG has now emerged the victor, and will helm Universal’s adaptation of the Hasbro game, working from a script by Tron: Legacy writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.

Described as a cross between The Mummy and Indiana Jones , the film is being set up as a major tentpole by Universal, who are no doubt hoping to turn it into a franchise to rival The Pirates Of The Caribbean .

Is McG the right man for the job? He showed he had matured after the Charlie’s Angels outings with Terminator Salvation (even if that script needed a lot of work), and we know he can handle the action.

We’ll reserve judgement until we’ve seen his next film, Chris Pine dramedy This Means War, which opens later this year. Expect Ouija in cinemas 9 November, 2012.
