GR+ Live: Meet the makers of Dangerous Golf and Burnout

Dangerous Golf is both precisely and the opposite of what you would expect Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry to make at their new studio Three Fields Entertainment. The pair co-founded Criterion Games over twenty years ago, and built the studio's reputation on wild, bombastic racing games like Burnout. A game about exploding, destructive golf balls is at least of a piece with that game's crashes. Still... golf? The steadiest, most action-free sport around? How did this come about, and what was it like starting a new studio from scratch decades after entering the business? We discussed that and more with Alex and Fiona.

I've been playing games since I turned four in 1986, been writing about them since 1987, and writing about them professionally since 2008. My wife and I live in New York City. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game ever made, Hum's Downward is Heavenward is my favorite album, and I regularly find myself singing "You Won't See Me" by The Beatles in awkward situations.
