First trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduces new heroes and villains

While the marketing campaign for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally coming to a close with its DVD and Blu-Ray release this week, the promos for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are just beginning. Yesterday it was announced that the first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off film would be dropping online today, and drop online it has. Check it out below...

While the trailer is light on story specifics there's a lot to like in this first look; Felicity Jones already looks to be a great lead, and that little glimpse of Donnie Yen kicking ass was a fantastic tease for what will hopefully be great action sequences. I'm also really digging the musical arrangement of John Williams' classic score, which fits the trailer's tone perfectly.

All in all it's a very effective promo, and with The Jungle Book and Captain America: Civil War both debuting in cinemas this month, it's perfectly timed too. It's almost like Disney planned it...

Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to open in UK and US cinemas on December 16, 2016.
