Last week's 3DS update, released at the worst possible time for anything you needed to actually pay attention to, added Internet browser and online store compatibility to the handheld, and gave a taster of 3D retrogaming in the form of Excitebike 3D – but inconvenienced literally dozens of Ridge Racer 3D players (oh, we kid because we like) with tricky little code problems that crashed that game when you tried to start a race. This week, a new update to the previous update fixes that bug, allowing RR3D fans access to the eShop at last.
The update – “System Update” in the “Other Settings” section of the “System” menu, if you've a new machine which hasn't been updated before – also adds “improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments.” These include the ability to automatically download future updates whenever a wireless connection's available, so don't go committing that previous sentence to memory or you'll never get that brain-space back. Who knows what vital information you'll have to write down and carry about with you while outdated 3DS updating instructions sit useless in your noggin?
