Former World Series champion and first time game studio founder Curt Shilling gave us a better look at developer 38 Studios first title, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Shilling’s put together a western RPG Dream Team of sorts for the upcoming project. With a story penned by R.A. Salvatore, art by Todd McFarlane, and the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Ken Rolston working on the project, it’ll be interesting to see how the fantasy RPG turns out when it releases in early 2012.

The former Red Sox pitcher seemed giddy when introducing the new footage at EA’s E3 2011 press conference. “I honestly never thought I’d truthfully say this. But standing up here talking about 38 Studios’ first title Reckoning is every bit as exciting and exhilarating as talking about any of the three World Series I had the chance to take part in,” said Shilling with a sheepish grin that would make The Dude proud.
Unfortunately, Shilling had little else to add about Kingdoms of Amalur in terms of what really sets his studio's game apart from what we’ve all seen before. So sayeth the ex-Red Sox pitcher: “Amalur is a world of infinite possibility and endless choice. Reckoning places you at the heart of an epic war, giving you the power to change the fate and destiny of every living creature, including the world itself.” Shilling went on to mention Amalur’s “huge open world,” “hundreds of hours of gameplay” and a “fluid combat system.” Not much to drawn from that. But the screenshots do look very pretty indeed.
